SELECTION OF THE ENGINE AND DESIGN OF THE TRANSMISSION RATIO FOR A KARTING FOR INTERUNIVERSITY COMPETITION BASED ON ANALYSIS OF VEHICLE DYNAMICS

The present work was carried out at the IST Carlos Cisneros and its objective is to select the engine and the appropriate transmission ratios for a karting that participates in the national interuniversity karting competitions in Ecuador. A vehicle motion dynamics study is used to determine the propulsion force, power and torque required to move the car up to a theoretical maximum of 90 km / h. With the analytical results the engine and the corresponding gear ratios are selected. Six phases are executed in this work to achieve the results from which it is obtained, that it is necessary to implement an engine that provides 3.99 kW of power and a transmission ratio that provides 19.9 Nm. Three transmission ratios are designed according to each type of possible circuit: speed, mixed and locked. Finally, timed tests are carried out at the “Kartódromo dos Hemisferios” in the city of Quito, concluding that the best relationship for this type of circuit is the intermediate one, reaching a lap time of 72.832 ± 0.013 s.
