Construction of a prototype of a CNC machine applying dimensional and geometric tolerances

This article details the construction of a prototype CNC router machine, which is used in the mechanical sector; meanwhile it allows contouring engravings in soft materials. The study objective is the construction of the CNC prototype using ISO 286 and ISO 2786 dimensional and geometrical product specifications and verification to be used as a manufacturing teaching and learning module, which allows implementing bench work in technological education for the large number of students covering the numerical control machines deficit.
The CNC is built under the machining methodology, establishing adjustments in each of the moving pairs that guarantee proper operation and verified by dimensional metrology. The prototype receives orders from the computer through free software, which allows the machine to execute the machining by the movement of hybrid stepper motors, allowing the movement of the X, Y, and Z-axes. The mini CNC is tested and commissioned. It works based on basic geometries such as lines and regular polygons using materials such as MDF and acrylic, which allows us to obtain excellent engraving results in relation to the X, Y-axes and an acceptable parameter in the Z-axis.
